Lifestyle Fitness Langport - Swim School Stage Descriptions

Stage

Entry Level

Working Towards

Parent & Baby

12 months plus

Helping toddlers to enjoy swimming and have fun in the water, working on the Discovery Duckings badge.

Parents/Guardians must be in the water.

Stage 1

Children aged 4 years + Beginner in arm band

Developing water confidence and movement through water both with and without the use of floatation aids

Stage 2

Children aged 4 years + Confident in arm bands

Developing movement on both front and back for a distance of 5 metres

Stage 3

Able to swim 5 metres unaided

Developing movement on both front and back for a distance of 10 metres

Stage 4

Able to swim 10 metres unaided

Emphasis on buoyancy and floating in the water. Learn kicking techniques for front crawl, backstroke, breastroke and butterfly.

Stage 5

Able to kick 10 metres with recognised stroke

Developing deep water confidence whilst focusing on technique in all 4 strokes

Stage 6

Able to swim 10 metres with recognised stroke

Developing breathing technique and improve in all 4 strokes for a distance of 25 metres

Stage 7

Able to swim 

Focus on continuous swimming whilst working on technique in all 4 strokes

Club Swimmer

Completed all 7 Learn to Swim Stages

Completing advanced stages of the Learn to Swim syllabus including diving, distance and challenge awards.

Club Pro 1

Completed all 7 Learn to Swim Stages

Completing advanced stages of the Learn to Swim syllabus including diving, distance and challenge awards. Developing understanding of Competition rules and laws of the sport.

Club Pro 2

Continuous Swimming for 60+ minutes

Competition ability swimming all 4 strokes alongside implementing competition rules and laws of the sport.
